Connect Gmail for free
You can connect Gmail at no cost using IMAP with an App Password — no premium plan required. See: Connect Gmail via IMAP (free)
Setting Up an Email Integration
Go to Settings → Integrations to manage your connections. Each card shows the current status and available actions.
Google Workspace (Gmail + Calendar)
- Click Connect on the Google Workspace card.
- Sign in with your Google account and grant the requested permissions.
- Once connected you'll see Connected and syncing begins immediately.
Google Workspace sync requires a paid plan or the $2/mo Google add-on. If your plan lapses, sync pauses automatically and resumes when you upgrade.
Microsoft Outlook / Microsoft 365
- Click Connect on the Microsoft Outlook card.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account (Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, or Microsoft 365).
- The card shows whether your account is a personal account or a Microsoft 365 tenant.
This is a direct connection — no third-party service involved.
Other Email (IMAP)
Use IMAP to connect Yahoo, FastMail, iCloud, AOL, Proton Mail, Gmail, or any IMAP-compatible provider.
- Click Connect on the Other Email Provider (IMAP) card.
- In the dialog, click one of the provider preset tiles to auto-fill server settings.
- Enter your email address and password (or App Password — see the note in the dialog).
- Click Connect.
For step-by-step instructions for specific providers:
- Gmail: Connect Gmail via IMAP →
- Yahoo / iCloud / AOL / FastMail: IMAP Setup Guide →
- Proton Mail: IMAP Setup Guide →
Notion
- Click Connect on the Notion card.
- Authorize Ascend in Notion.
- Go to Settings → Imports → Notion to select and import pages and databases.
Large workspaces may take a few minutes. You can close the window and we'll notify you when it's done.
Connection Status
Each integration card shows one of these statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Connected | Syncing normally |
| Reconnect needed | OAuth token expired — click Reconnect |
| Sync error | A sync attempt failed — check the error message on the card |
| Not connected | No account linked yet |
Sync Overview
The Sync Overview section at the bottom of the Integrations page shows aggregate counts of mail messages and calendar events synced into your workspace.
Troubleshooting
- Items not appearing in Inbox: Allow a few minutes for the first sync to complete after connecting.
- "Reconnect needed" badge: Your OAuth token has expired. Click Reconnect on the card to re-authorize.
- IMAP "Authentication failed": Check that you used an App Password, not your regular account password. See IMAP Setup Guide.
- Google sync paused: Your plan may have changed. Check your subscription under Settings → Billing.
