Team Chat
Overview
Team Chat allows you to communicate with other users directly within a page or database view. It provides a real-time conversational interface to discuss content, coordinate edits, and leave persistent messages for your team.
Quick Start
Accessing Team Chat
- Navigate to any Page or Database.
- Look for the Team Chat icon (Message circle) in the top-right header, next to the user avatars.
- Click the icon to open the chat popover.
Sending a Message
- Type your message in the input field at the bottom.
- Press Enter or click the Send icon.
- Your message appears instantly for all other users on the page.
Core Features
Real-Time Presence
- See who is currently online via the avatar stack next to the chat button.
- The same presence system powers both the avatar indicators and the chat participants.
Unread Indicators
- The chat button will pulse Blue when there are new, unread messages.
- A badge counter shows home many messages you haven't seen yet.
Persistent History
- Chat history is saved with the document.
- You can leave a message for a colleague who isn't online, and they will see it when they next visit the page.
Best Practices
Contextual Discussion
Use Team Chat for quick, ephemeral discussions about the specific page you are viewing. For long-form, structured feedback, consider using Comments on specific blocks or rows.
Coordination
Use chat to coordinate "who is editing what" to avoid stepping on each other's toes during intense collaboration sessions.
Troubleshooting
Chat Disappears
If you are the only one on the page, the chat widget remains visible so you can review history or leave notes. If you don't see it, try refreshing the page.
Messages Not Syncing
The chat relies on the real-time collaboration server. If messages aren't sending:
- Check your internet connection.
- Verify you are connected to the collaboration server (look for the "Connected" status or avatars).
- If issues persist, refresh the page to reconnect.
